CMH Architects Lifestyle Center Projects: The Avenue Carriage Crossing

The Avenue Carriage Crossing is a large Lifestyle Center which incorporates Dillard’s and Macy’s department stores for a total area of approximately 810,000 SF. Located in the upscale and historic town of Collierville (in the greater Memphis, Tennessee area) the project involved a very stringent architectural review process. Ultimately, the challenge for CMH was to design this large project in a way that would relate to the human-scale and to be very pedestrian friendly while capturing the architecture of historic Collierville. This was accomplished by having multiple “main streets” with varied architecture, a central village green and a separate children’s park. Tree lined sidewalks with brick paving, traditional street lights, fountains and sculpture all added to the look and feel of a traditional small town. According to Michael O’Kelley, Project Manager for CMH, the architectural design with towers and turrets at key locations, along with the central village green not only creates points of interest but also provide visual landmarks for shoppers. The Avenue Carriage Crossing opened in October 2005 and the neighboring MarketPlace, with an additional 185,000 SF, is scheduled to open April 2008.
