CMH Architects Corporate Office Projects: Synovus Centre

Synovus Centre is a five story, 127,400 SF, Class-A office building and 780 car parking deck located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in historic “uptown” Columbus, Georgia. Developed by the WC Bradley Company of Columbus, the building was positioned to play a pivotal role in the redevelopment of Columbus and its riverfront. The building serves as corporate headquarters for Synovus Bank and also includes two local law firms. The design concept was that the predominantly brick building would have a “mill” appearance on the facade facing the city – respecting the history and architecture of Columbus – while the river facade would be more contemporary reflecting the high tech nature of Synovus and Columbus’s future. The building was built on a tight urban site requiring relocation of existing roadways to create a new feature street along the riverfront and new public park spaces on two sides of the building that link the new building and parking deck with the rest of the WC Bradley campus and future development along the riverfront. The building utilized local brick, white curtainwall and precast to be consistent with existing buildings on the WC Bradley campus. The river façade also features two “lanterns” that project above the roof line and house the Synovus boardroom and primary executive offices. Additional executive offices are located along a radiused glass facade overlooking the river.
